The Architecture & Engineering Department is pleased to be able to provide open access to all of the Design Standards that we have developed for new schools and renovations of existing school buildings. Since our work is related to a single building type – schools – we utilize Design Standards to ensure: quality and consistency of systems and materials; ease of operations and maintenance; and appropriate and cost-effective design. We hope this information will be useful and informative to you.

The New York City School Construction Authority (“SCA”) provides this Web version of the SCA’s STANDARDS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS (“Standards and Specifications”) for reference and informational purposes only.  Please note the publication of this Web version of the Standards and Specifications does not: (i) preclude the SCA from requiring compliance with additional requirements which may be set forth in the applicable contracts for an individual project and shall be considered an elaboration of these Standards and Specifications; and/or (ii) relieve any individual, person, business, firm, contractor, consultant, architect or engineer from complying with applicable law, rules and regulations governing the work undertaken for any particular project.

The print version of the Standards and Specifications, together with any amendments thereto subsequent to the posting of this Web version, is the official version and in the event of any discrepancies that exist between the print and Web versions of the Standards and Specifications, it is the print version, together with amendments thereto, that shall be considered correct.
